Directory of Hospitals
- Albany Medical Center.
"The mission of Albany Medical Center is a simple one: to provide
the region with excellence in
medical education,
biomedical research,
and patient care. The
Center is unique to this area in that it combines the strengths and
resources of a prominent medical college, the skills of its faculty,
and patient care services of a major hospital. Here, all three -
education, research and patient care - come together resulting in
exceptional health care.
-
Albany Memorial Hospital. "In 1868, we opened as the
Albany City Free Dispensary, providing healthcare services for
patients in the community who were unable to pay. Over the next 82
years, the hospital had a total of five downtown Albany locations -
including two on North Pearl Street. In 1957, Albany Memorial
Hospital moved to its current location on Northern Boulevard.
Today, as a 165-bed community hospital, Albany Memorial is at the
forefront of acute care and ambulatory surgery offering a vast range
of services including emergency services, critical care, ambulatory
surgery, diabetes management at our Diabetes Center and care for
congestive heart failure through our Heart Program.
In 1997, Albany Memorial Hospital joined Northeast Health. Comprised
of Albany Memorial Hospital, Samaritan Hospital and The Eddy,
Northeast Health is the region's most comprehensive network of
healthcare, supportive housing and community services."
-
Capital District Psychiatric Center. "CDPC provides
inpatient psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation to patients who
have been diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illnesses and
for whom brief or short-term treatment in a community hospital
mental health unit has been unable to provide symptom stability.
CDPC has outpatient treatment services for children, adolescents,
and adults. CDPC also operates two adult community residences, an
adolescent crisis residence, and three adolescent day-treatment
programs. Located in Albany, New York, CDPC is in the center of the
service area and is within an hour's drive of the counties served.
CDPC employs a model of psychiatric rehabilitation that encompasses
both program-based treatment and centralized skill-building groups
to ameliorate symptoms, develop self-esteem, and create successful
experiences for our patients. This philosophy of care, we believe,
improves client outcomes and encourages individuals to develop
independence."

- St. Peter's Health
Care Services. "Founded by the Religious Sisters of Mercy
in 1869 as St. Peter's Hospital, St. Peter's Health Care Services
today provides New York's Capital Region with a comprehensive,
integrated continuum of care.
Patients in every area of the St. Peter's continuum of care discover
a more personal kind of care, given by professionals who keenly
comprehend the medical importance of individual attention. The level
of technological sophistication in diagnosis and treatment at St.
Peter's is equally high, with equipment, technicians and physicians
as advanced as any in the region.
Bringing the very best that medical technology can offer together
with the fundamental powers of real human compassion, St. Peter's
Health Care Services cares for the whole individual. For at the core
of St. Peter's Health Care Services is the belief that each human
life is to be treasured, and that every moment of that life is
precious. From the first breaths of the newborn in the Birthing
Center, to the last days of care in Hospice, St. Peter's Health Care
Services is dedicated to providing the most advanced, individualized
and compassionate care anywhere."
-
Samaritan Hospital. "Samaritan Hospital opened its doors
in 1898, at a time when major clinical and technological
discoveries, such as x-rays, the electrocardiogram and new methods
of diagnosis and treatment, were dramatically changing the way
healthcare could be delivered to the community. First located on
Eighth Street in Troy, in the former Troy Orphan's Asylum, the
hospital moved to its present location at the corner of Burdett and
Peoples Avenues in the early 20th century.
A community hospital with a 238-bed capacity, Samaritan offers a
vast range of services including emergency services, critical care,
ambulatory surgery, maternity, cancer care, women's health and
behavioral health services."
-
Albany VA Medical Center: Samuel S. Stratton. "The
Stratton VA Medical Center, part of the VA Healthcare Network
Upstate New York, is located in the heart of Albany, New York.
Opened in 1951, our Medical Center serves veterans in 22 counties of
upstate New York, western Massachusetts and Vermont. In 1990 this
facility was named in honor of Samuel S. Stratton, U.S. Congressman
for 30 years of the 23rd District, a staunch supporter of veterans
and a frequent visitor to our hospital."
Government Information
- New
York State Department of Health, Hospitals in New York State.
"The New York State Department of Health is dedicated to ensuring
quality health care in all of the State’s health care facilities. We
strive toward this goal by measuring the care rendered to patients
in comparison to a code of rules and regulations which all
facilities must follow. This code involves minimum standards of care
which facilities are required to provide.
Any complaints against a hospital submitted to the Department’s
attention regarding patient care or environmental concerns are
investigated by Department staff. The Department’s investigation of
complaints determines whether or not the facility fulfilled the
requirements of the State Health Code based on the concerns raised.
The Department conducts surveys and investigations of hospitals for
both State licensure purposes and through a contractual relationship
with the federal government."
