Animal

  • Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (SETA).  "Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (SETA) is a SA funded animal advocacy organization at the University at Albany . SETA works to end animal cruelty, primarily by helping students and members of the local community adopt humane, vegetarian diets.

Cinema

  • Friends of the Madison.  "Friends of the Madison was initially established in late 2004 as a response to a proposal to demolish the Madison theater and several other buildings in the Pine Hills section of Albany, NY and replace them with a large, stand-alone store with a parking lot and drive-through. We have since developed as an advocacy organization working with other neighborhood groups on the future of Upper Madison.

    Our group of concerned citizens involves hundreds residents from across the city, including business owners, members of the arts community and representatives of area colleges. Many city stakeholders recognize that the future of the Madison Theater has impact far beyond the traditional Pine Hills Neighborhood area.

    Friends of the Madison is dedicated to reviving the Madison as a neighborhood and citywide resource..."

Golf

  • Northeastern New York Section PGA (NENY PGA).  "The Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) founded in 1916, is a not-for-profit organization that promotes the game of golf while continuing to enhance the standards of the profession. The PGA is divided into 41 geographical sections. Each PGA Section operates within a framework of The PGA Constitution. Many sections are also sub-divided into chapters for the geographical convenience of members.The PGA is comprised of more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals who are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf.

    The mission of The PGA is to promote the enjoyment and involvement in the game of golf and to contribute to its growth by providing the services to golf professionals and the golf industry. The PGA will accomplish this mission by enhancing the skill of its professionals and the opportunities for amateurs, employers, manufacturers, employees, and the general public.     The Friends of the New York State Newspaper Project offer a free 92-page loose-leaf book entitled "The Great Railroad Strike of 1877: An Instructional Packet for Teachers and Students of Labor History in New York State and the United States of America" to New York State teachers..." 
  • New Netherland Institute.  "The New Netherland Project was established under the sponsorship of the New York State Library and the Holland Society of New York. Its primary objective is to complete the transcription, translation, and publication of all Dutch documents in New York repositories relating to the seventeenth-century colony of New Netherland. This unique resource has already proven invaluable to scholars in a wide variety of disciplines. It also serves to enhance awareness of the major Dutch contributions to America over the centuries and the strong connections between the two nations. The Project is supported by the New York State Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the New Netherland Institute.

    The New Netherland Institute (formerly Friends of New Netherland) seeks to increase public awareness of the work of the New Netherland Project and supports the Project through fund raising. The Institute assists authors of scholarly and popular material; disseminates information to educators, researchers, historians, curators, genealogists, and anthropologists; develops collaborations with academic institutions and other organizations interested in early American history; provides learning opportunities, such as internships, as well as research and consulting services pertaining to New Netherland; and sponsors activities related to the work of the New Netherland Project." 

Medical / Health

  • Community Hospice Foundation.  "It is the mission of The Community Hospice Foundation to provide funding that will serve to strengthen the mission of The Community Hospice and its many programs and services as it provides hospice care to those with terminal illnesses and their family members living throughout the seven county region served by The Community Hospice.

    In doing so, The Foundation will implement a development program that is multi-faceted in nature and will address funding, community awareness and educational needs so that mission of Hospice, and the concept of hospice care, will be readily available, more fully understood and more appropriately utilized by all those in need."

  • Islamic Zawiyah Educational Trust (IZET).  "Islamic Zawiyah Educational Trust (IZET), a non-profit organization established in 1999, has been committed to supporting Islamic scholarship and to preserving and promoting it for the benefit of others. As an extension of IZET, Zawiyah Productions, records, archives, and makes available for purchase lectures, seminars, and retreats of Shaykh Mokhtar Maghraoui. Proceeds from the sales are directed towards allowing for further productions as well as offering more opportunities of learning." 

Rocketry

  • Astre Online - Capital District Rocketry. "ASTRE, the Albany- Schenectady- Troy Rocket Enthusiasts of New York, is Section 471 of the National Association of Rocketry (NAR).

    ASTRE has been active in the Capital District, Mohawk Valley and surrounding areas since 1986, and we have members from the entire region.

    We welcome anyone with an interest in rocketry and space modeling to share in our activities. If you live in the Capital District, or near the Capital District, and enjoy building and flying rockets, then we invite you to join us. Our membership spans all ages. Families are most welcome.
