Christian
Catholic
- Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany.
"We are God's people sharing a responsibility to witness God's
unconditional love and to bring Christ's healing presence to our
world."
Christian
- Cornerstone Christian
Church. "Cornerstone was born in the early 1980's through
a small group of Christians meeting in a rented storefront with a
vision for a local, vibrant, spirit-filled church. As the church
began to solidify around a common vision they purchased a small,
picturesque stone church building in Menands, NY.
In 1991 the church officially adopted the name Cornerstone Christian
Church and purchased a 16.1-acre property on Schoolhouse Road in
Albany, NY. Cornerstone continued to grow and expand, and in 1996,
was able to fund and build a beautiful church building on the
Schoolhouse Road property.
The church continued its steady growth over the next five years
resulting in the need to expand their facilities yet again.
Cornerstone launched their “G2g” campaign (Generation to generation)
in 2001 and raised over $1.25 million to build a new children’s and
youth wing on the building, which was officially opened in the fall
of 2004.
Cornerstone added a new dimension to its ministry in 2005 by
planting two churches in the greater Capital District. The
Shepherd’s House was planted in Kinderhook, NY by Michael &
MaryEllen Brennan and Life Christian Center was planted in Saratoga,
NY by Dave & Penny Shacket. Both churches are thriving today and are
impacting their communities in substantial ways.
Today, Cornerstone remains passionate about building a healthy &
vibrant church for the Capital District! We are well known for
having a dynamic children’s & youth ministry and for a focus on
excellence and relational ministry. With a great staff of talented
and gifted communicators, you are guaranteed to hear a relevant and
challenging message every time you visit.
We would love to welcome you to church next weekend! We have
opportunities for every member of your family to enjoy themselves as
you learn about God & the Bible and build some great friendships
while you are at it. If you have a need, we would love to pray with
you and to be a support and strength to you.
There is a lot of great information on this web site, but the best
way to learn about Cornerstone is to come and experience us
firsthand!"
Episcopal
- Cathedral of
All Saints, Albany. "Welcome to the first great
Cathedral built in the Episcopal Church. Begun in 1884, and opened
for worship in 1888, this church has been a place of daily worship
for over one hundred years. Here, day by day in corporate prayer
and in private devotion, we celebrate our faith that Christ has
died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. And we proclaim to
the world that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.
The Cathedral of All Saints is the seat of the Episcopal Bishop of
Albany. His Cathedra, or chair, is here, near the High Altar, and
the cathedral exists to assist the Bishop's ministry and to serve
his Diocese, which comprises nineteen counties of upstate New
York. The Cathedral of All Saints is also the spiritual home of a
local congregation which welcomes you into its fellowship and
ministry."

the Spirit;

- St. Peter's
Protestant Episcopal Church. "St. Peter's is an active
church with a rich history. With a growing membership, St. Peter's
seeks to worship God, to support the spiritual growth of all
parishioners, to reach out to the surrounding community, and to
preserve our unique Christian heritage for the benefit of future
generations.
St. Peter's has served as an active center of worship for nearly 300
years. A member of the Diocese of Albany, St. Peter's existed before
the formation of the Episcopal Church after the American Revolution.
The current St. Peter's Church is the third structure in the
parish's history, the first having been built in 1715.
Much of the life of the church takes place in the Guild House
adjacent to the church, which houses the church offices, the Sunday
school classrooms, the nursery, the choir room, the archives, a
large auditorium with full kitchen, the Pumpelly Room parlor for
receptions, and upper floor apartments. St. Peter's also maintains a
suburban Loudonville Rectory and operates the Church Mouse thrift
shop next to the Guild House at 109 State Street.
Central to parish life, however, are the Sunday and Wednesday
services of morning prayer and Holy Eucharist. Visitors to St.
Peter's repeatedly comment on the glorious choir music, the
thought-provoking sermons, and the inspiring worship space. We
invite you to come worship with us."
- St. Stephen's
Church. "Welcome to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church,
founded as a mission church in 1909. Our worship space was a
blacksmith shop located at the present site of the Veterans’ Park
next to Stewarts, and photos from that period indicate that the
faithful worshipped in tight and modest quarters. The dream of a
permanent home finally came to fruition in the 1920’s as plans
were made to build a new church at the corner of Elsmere Avenue
and Poplar Drive. Work was completed on the project in 1927.
Although our building has changed over the years, we are still on
the same corner and still have the same family feeling. We still
use the communion silver offered by the first vestry of St.
Stephen’s. We are still committed to providing excellent Christian
education for our children. We are still longing for a sense of
connection to God and to each other."

Judaism
- B'nai Sholom
Reform Congregation. "Our 180 members include people
raised in Reform, Conservative and Orthodox households as well as
interfaith couples and Jews-by-choice. Our spiritual leader since
1985 has been Rabbi Donald P. Cashman. Under Rabbi Cashman's
leadership, we offer a wide variety of programs and services
designed to promote a positive Jewish experience for all
congregants, young and old.
We hold weekly Shabbat services at 8pm on Fridays with at least one
Shabbat morning service each month. Baby-sitting is available at
most services in our 'Kiddie Congregation'. B'nai Sholom's services
are intimate with frequent member participation. At the High Holy
Days, our services are invested with the richness that Jewish custom
and ritual provide, but preceded by a children's service designed to
introduce our youngest members to Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. In
addition, all congregants are invited to a fellow congregant's home
for a Rosh Hashanah luncheon following services and to a
congregational break-fast at Yom Kippur. At Purim, we celebrate with
joy and laughter, costumes and the 'whole Megillah'. We have
frequent class-run services and Tot Shabbats, for our youngest
congregants. We have monthly Torah study, a volunteer choir, a
women's Rosh Hodesh Group, our Sholom Garden, and much, much more.
Among the programs that set us apart is the B'nai Sholom Religious
School. This Sunday-only school educates over 125 children, and most
of the classes are taught by members of the congregation. We pride
ourselves on our Religious School program, with many of our students
preparing for Bar/Bat Mitzvah at the end of 7th grade."

Emeth. "Our mission is to worship God in accordance with

Community, to strengthen spiritual enrichment and the bonds of
loyalty with the Jewish people everywhere; and to bring near the
kingdom of God on earth through an emphasis on fairness, human
responsibility and social justice in society at large."
- Congregation Ohav Shalom.
"Our goal always is to love peace and pursue peace. Like all
communities, we will, at times, experience conflict with each other.
Conflict in and of itself is not bad. If used wisely, it can lead to
an honest airing of views and the building of consensus. We must
always be dedicated to the twofold process of pursuing peace while
fostering honest debate about our direction as a religious
community. Most important, our goal within the larger Jewish
community is to build unity with our fellow Jews of all persuasions
and affiliations, in a spirit of love and respect."
